Single-layer safety glass is heat-hardened (tempered) and has a higher mechanical and thermal resistance than conventional glass. The glass is then heated and rapidly cooled, allowing the manufacturer to achieve permanent tension across the entire surface with compressive stress on the surface and tensile stress inside the glass. If the glass is then broken, it will shatter into pieces with blunt edges. This will be appreciated by everyone, especially families with small children.
The second option is laminated safety glass, which consists of two or more panes of glass. These are bonded together into an integral unit by means of one or more PVB sheets. If, for example, a railing is broken, the foil will hold the glass fragments together and prevent a person from falling over the railing.
